What happens at an initial assessment?
At your first appointment you will be asked several questions to find out about your any problems in more detail. We will discuss your symptoms and medical history as well as discussing how this impacts your daily life.
Depending on what your concerns/problems are we are likely to assess your posture, breathing, supporting muscles and stomach muscles. The assessment is individualised to each client based on their presenting concerns.
If your problems are related to your pelvic floor, an internal examination is often advised to assess your pelvic floor function. This can be done either via a vaginal examination or a rectal examination. We will discuss what is involved and why this examination may be beneficial to you at your appointment. You do not have to have this examination, and you have the right to change your mind at any point. The examination can also be completed at a subsequent appointment if you wish.
After a full assessment we will discuss the findings and make a treatment plan. This will usually involve some exercises and advice to continue with at home.
What happens in a follow up appointment?
During a follow up appointment, we will discuss any change in your symptoms and update your treatment plan accordingly. It maybe necessary to repeat parts of the examination to assess any progress you have made since your last appointment. This may include either a vaginal or rectal examination. Your Physiotherapist will offer you an internal examination if it is relevant to your condition when booking your follow up appointment.
